Commentary on Genesis 1-2

The early chapters of Genesis provide a foundation for what we find in the balance of Scripture. In these chapters we read of the creation of the heavens and earth and the human race, the fall of that race with the associated curses on mankind and the created order, the global flood of Noah’s time, and the tower of Babel with the accompanying confusion of languages. There is much debate about how to understand and interpreted the events recorded here. This is especially the case in the creation account recorded in the first two chapters of the book. This commentary focuses on these two chapters and presents views that are deemed to accord with a literal understanding of the text.

What follows is divided into three sections: Explanations, Translation, and Commentary. The “Explanations” section provides the rationale behind the translation and commentary which follow. The “Translation” section is simply a translation of Genesis 1 and 2 without comment other than that provided by segment division headings for chapter 1. The “Commentary” section is a verse-by-verse explanation for the translation of the text as well as a commentary on the text.
