The Scripture teaches that one of the members of the Godhead is God the Father.[1] As a member of the Godhead he is a separate person who has independently all the components that make up a person and who fully has the nature of deity.[2] He assumed his “Father” relation at the outset of the execution of the decree.[3] This relation is indicative of his position of authority over the Son in carrying out that decree.[4] The Father has been active in determining and executing the plan of the Godhead. As such, he is ultimately the planner and the source of the creation.[5]

The work of the Father prior to this dispensation is seen primarily in relation to the incarnate Son.[6] However, he was also active with reference to both believers and unbelievers at that time.[7] His work in this dispensation is seen primarily in relation to the Church. He calls those who are to be saved, he seals with the Spirit, he anoints, he regenerates, he indwells, he forgives, and he does a good work in believers.[8] He, with the Son, sent the Spirit.[9] Subsequent to this dispensation, the work of the Father can be seen in His future reign.[10]
